Supporting our Medicus users has always been central to our work at Mela Solutions. In March 2026, we launched a new webinar series designed to help NHS critical care teams get the most from the platform. The series shares practical guidance, best‑practice insights and a preview of upcoming features.

Our first session, Medicus Data Validation Best Practice: Getting Your Data Right, took place on 24 March 2026 and received an excellent response from our Medicus community.

A Nationwide Turnout

More than 160 people from 146 NHS organisations joined the session, including clinicians, data leads, audit coordinators and administrative staff. This wide attendance reflects the strong engagement within the Medicus community and the interest in shared learning across the NHS.

The session was led by Gemma Millen, Clinical Data Analyst at Mela Solutions, who brings over two decades of critical care nursing experience and deep knowledge of audit data processes.

Understanding the Medicus Community

Before demonstrating the platform, Gemma shared poll questions to understand who had joined and how they work with critical care data. Most attendees were nurses and clinical administrators responsible for data entry, validation, DVR queries and reporting along with some clinical consultants.

When asked what their biggest challenge in national registry data collection was - many teams said they spend most of their time dealing with missing or incomplete data. Others highlighted the complexity of collecting CCMDS data, an area where the updated version of Medicus introduces meaningful improvements.

Another emerging priority was SSQD reporting. Many teams said they are still developing their processes for this, with 44% of attendees not yet submitting. The latest version of Medicus includes tools designed to support this work.

The Bigger Picture: Audit Data Collection in the NHS

All NHS critical care units participating in the Case Mix Programme must submit audit data. This dataset covers demographics, admission details, physiology, organ support, infections and outcomes, and is used for benchmarking, national reporting and quality improvement.

Managing registry data requires consistency, clear definitions and effective tools. Top three common areas where teams seek support include:

1. Keeping data complete ahead of submission
2. Reducing DVR queries through better workflows
3. Streamlining SSQD data reporting, especially for newer ACC18 and ACC19 metrics.

The Medicus webinar series aims to build user confidence across all these areas.
